An Integrated Approach to Information Management
- Ottawa
|
|
The blurring of boundaries between different forms of digital content (documents, records, databases, web content, streaming audio and video, digital photos, etc.) and between different disciplines (records management, content management, document management, web management, technical writing, business process analysis and application development, knowledge management, etc.) is driving a move to integrated, cross-discipline approaches to managing information. This course addresses the theoretical and practical needs of the managers and practitioners who are charged with developing and implementing strategic, corporate approaches to information management in their organizations.
The course addresses these key questions:
- What is information management? What is driving it? Who are its stakeholder disciplines?
- How do you develop an information management framework for your organization?
- What legislation and standards must be considered?
- What business tools are important? (e.g., strategic planning, business process analysis, client needs assessment, project management, risk management and data modeling).
- What are the key characteristics of record management, content management and other information management-related systems?
- How do you handle change and other organizational culture issues when introducing an information management program?
This course is required for the Certificate in Information Management and is the basic building block for the program, introducing concepts that will be further developed in other courses within the program.
